Calhoun County Receives ADEM Grant for Recycling Enhancements
Calhoun County has secured a $93,410 grant from the Alabama Department of Environmental Management to improve recycling operations at the landfill. This funding is part of a $2.5 million statewide effort to enhance recycling infrastructure and reduce landfill waste. Rodney Cox, director of the Calhoun County Landfill, stated the grant will help purchase two new trucks to collect recyclables from drop-off points. Nearby cities Gadsden and Southside also received grants of $67,333 and $52,578, respectively. Calhoun County Administrator Jonathan Gaddy urged residents to properly use recycling drop-off locations and avoid mixing household garbage with recyclables. The grant program is funded by the Solid Wastes and Recyclable Materials Management Act of 2008.
