OXFORD — The City Council honored Assistant Fire Chief Donald Heard on Tuesday for his 40 years of dedicated service to the Oxford Fire Department. Starting as a volunteer in 1984, Heard became the city’s first full-time certified firefighter in 1987 and later served as fire chief at the Anniston Army Depot for 15 years. Even after retiring in 2019, he remained involved with the department.
